OUR STORY
La Costeña’s story began in 1984 as a family-owned grocery store in Mountain View, where burritos were served from a small counter in the back. What started as a simple way to share authentic Mexican food quickly became a local favorite. More than 40 years later, we continue to serve tacos, plates, bowls, quesadillas, and our famous burritos made with fresh ingredients.
One of the most memorable moments in our history came in 1997, when La Costeña set out to break the Guinness World Record for the largest burrito during Cinco de Mayo at Rengstorff Park. Our community came together to build a massive chorizo-and-potato burrito using more than 5,000 tortillas and 28 gallons of salsa, completed within the 90-minute time allowed by the health department.
That record-breaking celebration showed what La Costeña has always been about: bringing people together through great food and community. Today, we are proud to continue sharing that same tradition with Mountain View.
